The Hubhouse System
Everything in a Hubhouse is designed to work together. The result is a home that is more comfortable, healthier, more efficient and easier to live in. The central Hub brings most of the systems together in one convenient efficient location. That combined with the tightly sealed and high performance insulated envelope makes it all work.
(SIPs)
Structural Insulated Panels
Structural Insulated Panels form the primary building envelope of a Hubhouse.
SIPs combine structural strength with excellent thermal performance, allowing the building structure and insulation to work together as a single component. Precision manufacturing improves accuracy and enables openings, services and interfaces to be coordinated before construction begins.
Benefits include:
- Faster construction
- Improved thermal performance
- Reduced thermal bridging
- Greater airtightness
- Improved build quality
- Reduced site waste
The result is a robust and highly efficient building envelope that forms the basis of a high-performance home.
Solar PV & Battery Storage
Hubhouse roof designs are developed with solar generation in mind.
Solar photovoltaic systems provide renewable energy during daylight hours, helping power household systems while reducing grid dependence. Optional battery storage allows excess energy to be stored for use later in the day and evening.
System sizes can be tailored to suit individual requirements and expanded in the future if desired.
MVHR
Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery
Modern high-performance homes require controlled ventilation.
The MVHR system continuously extracts stale air from bathrooms, laundries and other wet areas while supplying filtered fresh air to living spaces and bedrooms.
The heat recovery process transfers energy between outgoing and incoming air streams, helping improve efficiency while maintaining indoor air quality.
Benefits include:
- Continuous fresh filtered air
- Reduced allergens and airborne pollutants
- Improved humidity management
- Reduced condensation risk
- Better indoor air quality
- Improved comfort
MVHR is one of the key features that helps distinguish a high-performance home from a conventional home.
Underfloor Heating
Electric underfloor heating is included as standard within Hubhouse homes. It uses the excess energy generated by the PV’s during the day to provide 24 hour comfort.
Unlike conventional forced-air systems, underfloor heating provides gentle radiant warmth that is distributed evenly throughout the living environment. Combined with the thermal performance of the building envelope, this creates a comfortable and natural heating experience.
Air Source Heat Pump
The air source heat pump provides highly efficient domestic hot water production.
Powered primarily by solar energy generated during the day, the system stores hot water in a well-insulated cylinder ready for use when required. This approach helps reduce energy consumption while maintaining convenience and reliability.
Reducing Home Energy Demand
The building envelope is the foundation of every Hubhouse, determining how the home controls heat flow, manages air leakage and maintains comfortable indoor conditions.
Our approach reduces energy demand first. Once the building envelope performs efficiently, active systems can be smaller, simpler and more economical to operate.
High Performance Glazing
Windows play a critical role in the performance of any home.
Hubhouse utilises high-performance double glazing within thermally broken frames. Low-E coatings help reduce unwanted heat transfer while limiting UV penetration that can contribute to fading of flooring, furnishings and fabrics.
The result is improved comfort, reduced energy demand and better year-round thermal performance.
Passive Solar Design & Thermal Mass
Every site is different. Hubhouse homes are carefully designed to maximise the passive solar potential of each location.
Orientation, glazing placement, shading, thermal mass and room layout all contribute to year-round comfort. Thermal mass can store warmth during winter and help moderate temperature fluctuations throughout the day and night.
By reducing reliance on active heating and cooling systems, passive solar design plays an important role in long-term energy efficiency.
7+ Star NatHERS Performance
Every Hubhouse is designed to achieve a minimum 7-star NatHERS rating.
NatHERS measures the thermal performance of a home and provides an indication of how much heating and cooling energy is likely to be required throughout the year.
A higher NatHERS rating generally translates to improved comfort, lower energy consumption and reduced running costs.
