Frequently Asked Questions

Building a better home raises plenty of good questions. Whether you’re curious about the technology behind our system, how it performs in the Australian climate, or what a Hubhouse might cost, you’ll find the answers below. If there’s something we haven’t covered, we’d love to hear from you.

Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs) are high-performance building panels made from a rigid insulating core bonded between two structural boards. They combine structure, insulation and airtightness in a single system, allowing homes to be built faster while delivering exceptional thermal performance, greater comfort and lower running costs than many conventional building methods.

Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery (MVHR) continuously supplies fresh, filtered air to your home while extracting stale air from bathrooms, laundries and kitchens. Before the air leaves the home, its warmth is transferred to the incoming fresh air through a highly efficient heat exchanger, improving indoor air quality while reducing heating and cooling energy demand.

Airtight construction prevents unwanted draughts and stops expensive heated or cooled air escaping through gaps in the building envelope. When paired with an MVHR system, it creates a healthier, quieter and more comfortable home with cleaner air, more consistent indoor temperatures and significantly improved energy efficiency.

Hubhouse homes are designed to achieve a minimum 7+Star NatHERS rating, with many designs capable of achieving 8 Stars or higher depending on orientation, glazing, shading and project-specific design decisions. A higher NatHERS rating means the home requires less energy to remain comfortable throughout the year.

Every home is different, but the combination of SIP construction, airtight design, MVHR, high-performance glazing, efficient heating and cooling, and rooftop solar can dramatically reduce household energy use. Many homeowners can expect substantially lower heating and cooling costs while enjoying greater comfort and protection from rising energy prices.

Yes. Hubhouse designs are specific to each State. High levels of insulation, airtight construction, external shading, efficient ventilation and carefully integrated building systems help keep homes cooler during  hot summers while remaining warm, comfortable and energy efficient through winter.

Yes. Every Hubhouse is designed with the future in mind. The central Hub makes it easier to add or expand solar panels, battery storage, EV charging and other smart home technologies as your needs change, without major disruption to the home.

Final pricing has not yet been established. Building and refining the first showcase home will allow us to test the system, understand the true construction costs and identify where further efficiencies can be achieved.

Our emphasis will be on finding intelligent and creative ways to reduce costs without compromising performance, comfort or quality. The objective is to offer good value compared with conventional construction while including energy-efficiency and building-performance features that are often treated as expensive extras.

We anticipate three main ways of delivering Hubhouse homes. We will develop and construct some projects ourselves, build homes for individual clients on land they own or purchase, and license the Hubhouse system to selected home builders and small developers.

Licensed projects will require agreed inspections, testing and final sign-off to confirm that the Hubhouse Standard has been met. This protects the performance of the home for its owner and ensures that only verified projects can carry the Hubhouse name. In time, certification may also help owners access benefits associated with highly energy-efficient homes, such as preferential green-home finance where offered by lenders, although these opportunities are still being investigated.

Hubhouse is not simply a one-off energy-efficient house design. It is a coordinated building system intended to be tested, measured and continually refined from one project to the next.

Structural insulated panels allow major components to be manufactured and ordered in advance, supporting faster and more predictable construction. These work together with the central Hub, which organises the home’s essential services and technologies into an integrated system.

The principal difference is the combination of these elements – and the ongoing refinement of how they are designed, manufactured, installed and commissioned. Each completed home contributes to making the next Hubhouse simpler, more reliable and better value.
